Here at Uchify, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting abodes housing collections of all sorts: Lego, KAWS and racing paraphernalia, Bearbricks and more. The latest addition to our very own collection is a peek into the home of Singapore’s biggest Tamagotchi collector━a 5-room HDB BTO flat with custom shelves for almost 200 of these digital pet gadgets.
A home designed around their love for games
The first thing you’ll notice when you step into the flat is its eyecatching TV wall, painted dark grey, with a life-sized gaming console around the wall-mounted TV.
Rachel and her husband are avid gamers, so it’s no surprise that they decided to be out loud and proud about their penchant for gaming. The mural was custom-painted with characters from their favourite game, and sits just above a small TV console for their gaming boxes and such.
Elsewhere in the house, you’ll find display shelves packed with evidence of their love for gaming and collectibles━a fast-growing collection which sees new additions all the time.
Mini gachapon machines that the couple has picked up on trips to Japan.
The couple’s collection includes old-school gaming consoles.
Custom shelves built for Rachel’s Tamagotchi collection
But the place of honour, of course, belongs to Rachel’s $6,000 Tamagotchi collection, proudly displayed in a custom-built display shelf that sits opposite the TV mural.
With almost 200 Tamagotchis in a collection that she started at the age of 7, including a rare gold Suntec Tamagotchi, you can be sure that the cabinet has been carefully designed to protect these babies.
One of her Tamagotchi is custom-painted to represent herself and her husband, as well as their pet cats, which Rachel ordered to commemorate their wedding.
Double-duty dining table & kitchen island
In a departure from the norm, the couple decided to forego a regular dining set for a high wooden table with bar stools that doubles up as an island counter in their open-concept kitchen.
One of the biggest purchases in their $60,000 reno, the set of mismatched stools with their vintage industrial, black-coated metal legs are one of their favourite parts of the house.
Wood-lined bedroom with platform bed & open wardrobes
Keeping up with the industrial theme, the couple’s bedroom features an open-style wardrobe, done up with a dark-grained veneer. They’ve also eschewed a standalone bed for a built-in platform that provides additional storage space below, connected to the wardrobe via a small vanity.
The porthole mirror above Rachel’s vanity is a cute addition to the room.
Tamagotchi collector’s modern industrial 5-room BTO HDB flat
While not all of us are collectors with passions as great as Rachel’s, it’s always interesting to see how it can translate into a home that’s designed around that love. If you’ve got a collection of curios too, why not work them into your new home?
