Forgive our language, but vacuuming sucks. Corded vacuum cleaners tend to be clunky and difficult to manoeuvre around the house, making the chore nearly unbearable. With the proliferation of cordless vacuum cleaners, cleaning up has become easier. But not all cordless vacuum cleaners are created equal, which is why we had to give the Dibea F20 Max a run to see if it lived up to our expectations.
Aesthetics
Dibea F20 Max is similar to the iconic Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner – think sleek lines, a compact and lightweight body, and a vibrant red-and-blue colour scheme. In other words, it’s worlds apart from its bulky and unsightly corded counterparts.
The package comes with a wall bracket so that you can hang up the vacuum cleaner neatly and keep it out of the way efficiently, even in tiny service yards where every inch of floor space counts.
Affordability
At $229 after discount on Shopee, the Dibea F20 Max isn’t the cheapest handheld vacuum on the market. However, it comes with 3 attachments: a roller brush, a crevice nozzle, and a bristle brush.
It’s pretty affordable especially if you compare it to models from big brands such as Bosch and Dyson. Plus, if you make full use of Shopee’s discount vouchers and stack them with your Shopee coins, you can easily lower the price even further.
Suction power & ease of use
To switch it on, all you have to do is press the “trigger” of the handheld unit. Speed can be controlled by a +/- button on the top of the unit.
According to the product’s official specs, the handheld vacuum has a suction power of 100 air watts. In practice, it was able to suck up bits of tea dust efficiently on the lowest setting. A clump of cat fur, however, had to be defeated by standard mode – the second setting.
The third and highest setting – aptly dubbed “Power Mode” by Dibea – can allegedly conquer nuts and rock candy, but we didn’t put that to the test. How often do you spill nuts on the ground, anyway?
As for ease of use, we liked how the powerful roller brush propelled the handheld unit forward, which means that we didn’t have to expend much effort to push it around.
That said, while the vacuum was easy enough to operate on furry rugs, there’s a bit of resistance when you move between surfaces of different textures – e.g. wooden floor to a tufted carpet. In addition, the vacuum isn’t the smoothest when gliding over arc trunking on the floor, though that isn’t a common feature in most homes.
However, the brush itself swivels smoothly, making it easy to clean underneath low sofas, coffee tables, and even corners without breaking a sweat. It’s also illuminated, so you can easily see if an area is truly clean before you move on to the next.
To clean nooks and crannies, you’ll want to switch to the crevice nozzle. If you’ve used similar handheld vacuum cleaners, you’ll be familiar with the one-click detaching and attaching of assorted brushes and nozzles. The same applies here.
Noise level
Dibea’s product listing states that the vacuum cleaner has a noise level of 75dB, which is pretty standard for vacuum cleaners. It’s louder than a normal conversation, but softer than a telephone dial tone, according to a decibel comparison chart by Yale.
Dust bin
The dust cup has a capacity of 500ml, which will tide you through a few vacuums. When time comes to empty it, simply press the red release button on the body of the handheld unit to open the dust cup’s lid. A few thwacks against a trash bin is enough to clear out the dust cup – you don’t need to touch the grimy horrors within the container.
Attachments
The Dibea F20 Max comes with the standard roller floor brush, a 2-in-1 bristle brush, and a long crevice nozzle. If you have extra moolah to spare, there’s the option of adding a motorised mattress brush to your purchase. According to the brand, it’s supposed to remove dust mites from fabric-covered surfaces such as mattresses, sofas, and cushions.
Battery life
When fully charged, the vacuum can run for up to 50 minutes on Eco mode, 20 minutes on Standard mode, and 10 minutes on Power Mode. It takes 2-3 hours to fully charge the battery, which is pretty fast for mid-range models.
The battery is detachable, which means you can charge it just about anywhere. In turn, you don’t have to worry about installing the vacuum cleaner wall bracket near a power outlet or having to haphazardly leave the unit near a socket in the middle of nowhere – thus posing a tripping hazard – while charging it.
Dibea F20 Max verdict
The Dibea F20 Max is a pretty solid purchase for new homeowners looking to get a straightforward, mid-range vacuum cleaner. Despite its lack of frills compared to high-end models, the vacuum cleaner gets its job done.
Thus, if you’re on a budget, the Dibea F20 Max is a good place to start. From there, you can determine if there are any added fancy features you’d like in your next purchase when it’s time to buy a new vacuum cleaner.
