When it comes to the local entertainment scene, Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu are household names. In fact, they’ve been familiar faces to most Singaporeans for well over a decade. Joanne is perhaps best known for her role in the 2008 Chinese drama, The Little Nyonya, while Qi rose to stardom following his 1999 victory in Star Search Singapore.
Their professional accolades are known by many, but far less is known about their personal lives. The couple got married in 2014, and have 2 children. Most recently, they even moved into a new home: a beautifully-renovated resale condo. Here’s what we love most about their home:
Classical European theme that makes the whole apartment timelessly grand
In a Youtube video published by interior design platform, The SIXiDES, the couple revealed that they’d always been drawn to Modern-European, Classical look for all of their homes. Though this is the second home the couple has renovated, and sought to recreate the vision with this home as well.

Their ID, Astley Ng, also detailed how the original apartment needed to be “gutted” to create a fresh canvas for them to execute the couple’s Modern-European dream home. The approach he took was one that modelled a classic colonial house and this meant using copious amounts of white accented by shades of white, brown, and grey.

All the frills of the European look such as cornices and Victorian-style mouldings were all part of the brief as well to further accentuate the theme. The outcome is a very sophisticated interior that meets all the requirements of everyday living and has a design that evokes awe and stands the test of time.

The dining room is furnished with an elegant brown and cream coloured dining set, with a brown and white chandelier hanging from above. The rest of the space, especially around the windows is kept relatively open in order to allow light to enter, keeping the room bright and airy.

Odd layout that they used to their advantage

Unlike the typical rectangular-shaped apartment floor plans we’re used to, one thing that first struck up about Joanne and Yuwu’s home was how odd the layout was. The living was almost hexagonal in shape, and even in the living room and bedrooms, we see angles that are considered design challenges.

We love how the home’s structural pillars were strategically concealed with ample amounts of built-in floor-to-ceiling storage, creating the perfect partition to separate the living space into 2 private nooks for the family’s different purposes: a children’s play room and a living room.In addition to muffling the noise quite a bit, the columns create a beautiful symmetry.
An incredible amount of hidden storage
Most homeowners would err on the side of caution when it comes to built-in carpentry and opt for loose furniture to give them the flexibility to switch up the design of their home every couple of years or so. But Joanne and Yuwu knew exactly what they wanted, and made full use of their renovation to ensure that every inch of the home was space-optimised.

We see this in the abundance of hidden storage scattered throughout the apartment. Practically every vertical inch capable of accommodating shelving units or other cabinetry has storage installed.
If you look closely, you’ll see this in the TV console and in the living room, where they’ve made use of an oddly angled wall to incorporate additional shelving.

At the request of Joanne, who wanted a “Harry Potter” study, their custom full-length, L-shaped bookshelf is made out of dark wood, in a style that can only be described as dark academia.

They say that the best way to know a person is to take a peek inside their home. We dare say this statement rings true – while most of us have always known Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu as a Mediacorp power couple, we can now also see them as architecture lovers with a keen eye for interior design. The cornices don’t lie.
