If you think a lot of BTO and HDB projects are looking a little too predictable these past few years, you might be on to something. But here’s a trend we’ve been seeing more of: mixed-themed HDB home renovations

More homeowners are choosing unique HDBs that showcase their personality instead of cookie-cutter interiors–and one of the best ways to do it is mixing and matching styles and moods to create a space that feels personal. Here are 6 homes we love that show how fun and creative blending different styles together can be.

1. Minimal x Cave Core – Tengah Plantation

We get it, cave core can be an interior design trend that’s super out there. But for this 5-room BTO project at Tengah Plantation, The Designerds Group has toned it down by blending it with minimalist sensibilities.

Instead of going full dramatic with the cave aesthetic, they’ve kept things calm and clean—think textured, rock-like walls, and ceilings that give just enough ruggedness without overwhelming the space. Curved arches and inset nooks soften the look further, making it feel like a cosy retreat.

Paired with minimalist touches like sleek built-ins, soft white flooring, and blonde wood accents, the space feels balanced and breezy. There’s a subtle Japandi vibe that keeps everything grounded too–just have a look at the raised platform bed, light-filtering curtains, and low-profile furniture.

2. Victorian x Jungalow – Guan Chuan Street

Jungalow and victorian interior styles may seem like they’re worlds apart on the surface, especially since they come from completely different eras and aesthetics. But put them together, and you’ll find they share a lot in common.

At their core, both styles are mad eclectic. Jungalow interiors blend old and new—you can go all out with vintage pieces, travel finds, and lots of greenery—while Victorian homes layer different historical influences into one decorative, collected look. Both styles also share a love for bold colours and patterns. But while Jungalow spaces go tropical with bright hues and botanical prints, Victorian interiors add depth with ornate wallpapers, rich tones, and intricate detailing.

That’s exactly the vibe in this 116m², 4-room HDB at Guan Chuan Street, designed by Bowerman. The renovation, which came in at around $170,000, results in a home that feels lush, creative, and lived-in.

In the bedroom, a vintage-style coastal mural and a cheeky Fornasetti pillow add a surreal twist to a space that feels like a dream. And when you head to the bathroom, you’ll find black-and-white tiles and gold accents that add an Art Deco touch.

But where you can really see the 2 styles at play is the kitchen. The white shaker cabinets and brass fixtures unexpectedly complement the glossy green tiled arch. It’s just proof that maximalism, when done right, can be timeless too.

3. Peranakan x Japandi – Marine Drive

What do you get when you blur Japandi and Peranakan design for your interiors? A beautiful mix, of course. Both styles may come from different parts of the world, but they share a love for natural materials, handcrafted details, and a calm, lived-in feel—which makes them surprisingly easy to combine.

This 3-room HDB at Marine Drive by Intheory Design nails the look. Renovated for $97,000 and spanning 83m², the flat blends tradition with minimalism in a way that feels fresh yet familiar.

You’ll spot subtle Peranakan touches in the green-tinted glass panels and patterned details—like something out of a bougie shophouse. At the same time, the Japandi influence comes through in the low floor seating, platform bed, and clean lines. One standout feature we love is the Shoji-style panels using Peranakan glass, giving the home a local twist.

4. Dark Luxe Academia x Modern Deco Glam – Yio Chu Kang Beacon

This 93m² home at Yio Chu Kang Beacon blends Dark Luxe Academia with Modern Deco Glam. It’s 2 design styles that are very distinct, but when combined, it’s giving drama and sophistication. Designed by Butler Interior and completed in 2024, the $90,000 renovation is proof that bold contrasts can look incredibly cohesive when done right.

The magic word here is “contrast”. The home features a tonal palette of black, ivory, and brushed brass, with dark-stained wood cabinetry and sleek panelled walls adding to the moody, academic vibe. Then there’s the glam. A statement feather chandelier floats above the dining table like a modern art piece, while gold tapware and softly lit shelves add just the right amount of shine.

But it’s not all noir. A surprising transition leads you to soft pink-hued spaces that brighten the mood without breaking the theme. In the hallway and bathroom, blush tones, herringbone tiles, and brushed gold sinks bring a softer, more romantic touch.

5. Mid-Century Modern x Eclectic Retro – Haig View

From the moment you reach the bright yellow gate, it’s clear this 5-room HDB at Haig View isn’t playing by the rules. Designed by Intheory Design, the home’s entryway is a playful nod to classic Singapore HDBs. You’ll see retro-style grillwork reimagined in a bold sunflower yellow that pops against the corridor.

The home, spanning 110m² with a renovation cost of $110,000, blends mid-century modern foundations with eclectic retro flair. In the living room, you’ll find clean lines, a low-slung leather sofa, wood grain finishes, and a cowhide rug—all signatures of the mid-century look that keep things sleek and timeless.

But the rest of the home doesn’t shy away from colour or character. Bold patterns, vintage radios, a vinyl record collection, and even an old-school TV bring a dose of nostalgia, while a wall of blue-patterned ventilation blocks adds a subtle Peranakan twist.

Then there’s the pink room—coral-painted walls, a flamboyant pink feather lamp, a sculptural gold base, and rattan blinds come together in a moment of tropical maximalism.

6. Industrial x Mid-Modern – 433C Bukit Batok West Ave 8

Industrial homes often get a bad rep for feeling cold or unfinished, but this 5-room HDB by Three-D Conceptwerke flips the script completely.

The base is unmistakably industrial: concrete screed floors, raw cement breeze blocks, and exposed structural elements that give the space an edgy, grounded feel. But there are also  mid-century touches that bring out the charm. We’re talking clean-lined wooden furniture, rounded forms, and warm tones that balance out all the grey.

The living room is a great example. A vibrant green lounge chair and retro coffee tables add colour and softness, while still keeping with the home’s understated palette. Over in the kitchen, you’ll find matte black cabinets, a copper backsplash, and starburst floor tiles. The end result is something stylish but not shouty.

The study leans more playful, with olive green walls, checkered tiles, and a pop of red from a shelving unit that looks like it’s straight out of a Wes Anderson set. It’s proof that even with a mostly neutral home, you can still have fun with colour.
