The first robot vacuum cleaner hit the market in 1996, revolutionising the way we cleaned our homes. 29 years later, the little fella is still widely used in many homes, but almost a decade of innovation has given it wings━almost.
A robot vacuum that climbs steps
Before we get into any of the other details, let’s spare a moment to take a look at the Dreame X50 Ultra in action. Equipped with an industry-highest ProLeap System, this robot vacuum cleaner can traverse steps that are as high as 6cm tall━not quite a stair-climbing robot as yet, but almost as good.
What this means for you is that the Dreame X50 Ultra will no longer be restricted to rooms that are bound by a step. If it should enter the kitchen or bathroom, it’ll be able to find its way out; if it meets an obstacle such as a rug or the bottom bar of a table, it can surmount that too.
360-degree retractable radar sensor
How does the Dreame X50 Ultra know where to go, and what’s in its way? The answer lies in its VersaLift Navigation, which includes a LiDAR sensor that can be retracted back into the vacuum’s body.
LiDAR, just so you know, stands for Light Detection and Ranging━a remote sensing method that uses pulsed laser to determine and measure distance.

This nifty addition allows the robot to conduct 360° scans of the area; it’s also programmed to recognise up to 200 different kinds of regular household objects, including shoes, cords, chairs and more. If there are rugs, the vacuum will hop right on and continue its business; if it’s on mop mode, it will just steer around carpets, or lift up the mop pads to vacuum instead.
When the Dreame x50 Ultra detects low-hanging furniture, it’s also able to retract this LiDAR sensor down to a height of 8.9cm for it to access these areas.
Auto LED lights for early detection of obstacles
Gone are the days of calling your robot vacuum silly━the Dreame X50 Ultra works like a charm, even under dimly lit conditions. This vacuum isn’t going to be found blindly crashing into furniture.
Precision & multi-floor mapping functions
In fact, you can turn on the Multi-Floor mode on the Dreame app to map up to 4 floors of the house━perfect for those living in multi-storied landed properties. Plus, this robot vacuum ain’t gonna kamikaze down those pesky flights of stairs, and you won’t have to carry the docking station up and down. Simply turn on the Multi-Floor mode, and your robot will clean the entire floor before returning to the spot where it began its route.
If you have fragile pieces of furniture that you don’t want it to go near, map out the no-go zones on the app as well, and the robot will stay clear of them.
Add to these the Dreame X50 Ultra’s bionic mechanical arms, which extend 4cm beyond the circumference of the circular robot, and you’ll find that it can get into tight corners to clean, in spite of its shape.
MopExtend RoboSwing: even when mopping, the robot vacuum’s mopping pads can also extend 4cm outside its body to clean tight spaces.
No more jamming on hairballs

Put a household with multiple long-haired individuals, and furry friends that undergo seasonal shedding together, and you’ve got a recipe for vacuum cleaner disaster. I can’t be the only person who’s had more than one vacuum cleaner get irreparably jammed thanks to all the hair and fur clogging up its system.
With the Dreame X50 Ultra’s HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush, you’re almost guaranteed never to face this problem again. In fact, it supposedly can handle hair up to 30cm long, with a proprietary air duct design that ensures your robot won’t get choked in hairy situations.

You’ll also notice that there are 2 different kinds of brushes on this robot vacuum: the first is a bristled rubber brush that works best on hard floors, sweeping up the smallest specks of dust even in grouting. The second, a TPU rubber brush, is the tool that’ll scoop up debris and dirt that’s caught in your rugs and carpets.

Self-cleaning and drying mop with customisable temperature settings
With a 4.5L water tank in the docking station, the Dreame X50 Ultra can go without you needing to refill it for a good while.
All you have to do is top it up, as well as the cleaning solution regularly, and this will be diluted and mixed in the docking station.
Smart & sleek docking station
Unlike other vacuum mops or electric mops on the market, the Dreame X50 Ultra automatically washes the mopping pads after every cleanup with water that’s been heated up to 80°C so you can be sure the mopping pads are thoroughly cleaned without having to scrub or rinse them.
For a total hands-free experience, you won’t even have to remove the mopping pads to dry after they’ve been washed━the next step after the auto wash is a hot air auto dry sesh that’ll keep the mopping pads smell- and mould-free.
