2021 might have been the year of prominent Good Class Bungalow (GCB) sales, but 2022 is off to a promising start. We previously did a spotlight on famous owners of GCBs in Singapore, and from the looks of it, we’re only going to have to add more noteworthy names to the list.

Yet another Olive Road GCB has been sold, but this time to the grandchild of Singapore property tycoon, Wee Thiam Siew. If this name sounds familiar, that’s probably because youmight have chanced upon the eponymous road that is named after him in Tanjong Katong – Thiam Siew Avenue.

Purchased by the grandson of Wee Thiam Siew

The buyer, Wee Hian Nam, paid a grand total of $50.24 M for the 27,909sqft property that sits on the bend of Olive Road. This brings the cost per square foot to $1,800. This sits on the higher end of the psf spectrum with other houses in the area.

This home purchase comes after the $815M sale of the Wee families’s two plots of pre-war, detached houses that line the stretch in 2021.

GCB sits right opposite Ian Ang’s GCB

Olive Road is also home to Secretlab Co-founder Ian Ang, and coincidentally, Wee Hian Nam’s new place of residence sits right opposite is Ian’s  $36M 1940s GCB ($1,537psf) that overlooks the city. Given that the newly acquired GCB sits higher on the Olive Road bend, it’s safe to assume that the same sweeping views can be enjoyed as well.

22 Olive Road is also listed for $39.8M and sports a well-renovated modern interior.

At just 800m long, you’d think that this elite residential stretch in the Caldecott Hill Estate would be entirely snapped up. But at the time of writing, there are still a handful of GCBs available for sale along the stretch including a $60M GCB that spans 28,000sqft.
