Pet parents will understand the struggles of designing a space that can accommodate both humans and their fur babies. This HDB bedroom, however, takes that challenge to a whole new level, transforming into a sleek, futuristic space pod with a playful feline twist.
Designed by Vincent Chuah of local interior firm Design4Space, the room is a masterclass in blending sci-fi aesthetics with whimsical charm, proving that even compact HDB spaces can be reimagined into something extraordinary.

The room’s standout feature is its curved, pod-like structure, accentuated by soft, ambient lighting that evokes the glow of a spaceship. Cat-themed decor—peep the custom-made neon lights by the headboard—and sci-fi-esque details like the hexagonal shelves adorn the walls, creating a cohesive, complementary theme.

At the heart of the room is a custom-built space-saving bed that sits in the middle with a custom-built desk next to it. To help address the homeowner’s previous struggles with hoarding, mainly stuffed animals and toys, Vincent incorporated plenty of hidden storage solutions: the panel behind the neon cat light slides to the side, revealing some hidden shelves including a deeper compartment behind the headboard.

The cats, of course, are central to the design. Thoughtful touches like custom-made climbing shelves, cosy nooks, and a mini catwalk above the cabinets—accessible via a cutout hidden in the corner—ensure the homeowner’s furry inhabitants feel just as pampered as their human counterparts. A pet door was also installed into the bedroom’s door so that the homeowner’s pets can easily attend to their business in their litterbox outside.

The renovation process, featured in a House Everything episode on MeWatch, shed light on the challenges of decluttering and rethinking the space. The homeowner’s hoarding tendencies were quite rabak, to say the least.
But through clever storage solutions and a clear design vision, the team created a serene, clutter-free environment that was a complete 180° from what the room once was. It’s a compelling example of how thoughtful design can transform not just a room, but also the way we live.
