By now, regular readers of Uchify will know that Malaysia—particularly JB—is where Singaporeans will find amazing furniture, homeware, and even lighting at hard-to-beat prices. Objet, located at The Mall, Mid Valley SouthKey, is one such place where you can find stunners such as real teak tableware at prices that won’t break the bank.
Objet has several locations throughout Malaysia, but the most accessible for Singaporeans would be the outlet in Mid Valley Southkey, JB. Our team actually made our way there using public transport—zero driving was needed on our part, so don’t worry about having to navigate unfamiliar roads.
The home decor store is located on the first floor of The Mall Mid Valley Southkey, within a stone’s throw of Muji. With a brightly lit exterior and a huge storefront, Objet is rather eye-catching, and there’s little risk of not being able to find it.
1. Persian-style rugs from as low as RM269
Forget $30 cutesy rugs from Shopee that only look good the first few weeks, and then become rattier than your chouchou for the rest of time. Instead, pick up a lush rug from Objet and treat yourself. Designs run the gamut from modern geometric to intricate Persian-style weaves, and there’s a wide selection of sizes ranging from runners to gigantic ones that’ll blanket your living room floor.
Prices range from RM269 to RM380 for big rugs measuring 160cm x 230cm. If you have the budget—RM599 to be exact—splash out a bit more for the lavish rugs measuring 240cm x 300cm. Runners are more affordable, ringing in at only RM230.
2. Non-stick pots and knives
A nifty non-stick frying pan that works with all types of stoves—gas, electric, ceramic, and induction, will set you back RM89.
But what’s a collection of pots and pans without razor-sharp knives to go along with? A santoku knife only costs RM12 – perfect for entry-level aspiring chefs who want a multi-purpose tool that’ll let them test out the waters before they inevitably fall into a rabbit hole of custom Japanese cooking knives.
Don’t forget to pick up a honing steel and knife stone set (RM11) to keep your knives sharp for a long time to come.
3. Teak decorative tableware
If you’re someone who constantly thinks about visiting Bali or missing Bali, then these decorative tablewares made from Balinese teak will be perfect for you. The large selection immediately caught our eye when we first walked in, and we regretted not being able to haul everything home.
From simple soup ladles (RM17) to expertly carved geometric vases (RM63), the selection of teak tableware at Objet is nearly endless, and going through the entire treasure trove feels like one is exploring the Room of Requirements.
We also love the wide array of quality salad bowls, serving plates, and charcuterie boards that make us yearn for a tai-tai life where we putter around the kitchen and serve up fancy bits of finger food like Nara Smith, aka the TikToker who cooks things from scratch while dressed in gowns.
4. Rattan mirrors
Remember the expanding foam mirrors that everyone was obsessed with during the cursed year of 2020? Unlike those, the rattan mirrors at Objet are timeless affairs that will complement homes that incorporate bohemian or biophilic themes for a long time to come.
At RM99, the large, oval rattan mirror will be great hung near the entryway of your home for last-minute makeup and outfit checks. Meanwhile, the smaller, round mirror (RM89) makes for a great statement piece for the living room, perhaps above a couch accessorised with linen throws.
5. Muji-esque paper lamps
Pleated lampshades usually remind us of old-school interiors, but using paper instead of cloth shifts it into Muji-style territory. The only way to make this Objet pleated paper lamp (RM60) even Muji-ier is to replace the rattan base with solid wood, but we ain’t complaining.
For something distinctly Muji-esque without the corresponding premium price tag, pick up the diffuser lamp (RM60) instead—it’s about the same price as similar offerings on Shopee but with even better quality.
6. Double-walled mugs for RM19
Retro colourful glassware has been trending for a hot minute, and we just can’t get enough of how it adds a touch of eccentricity and excitement to even the mundane. These double-walled borosilicate mugs from Objet (RM19) will keep your drinks at your desired temperature while you endlessly scroll through Netflix searching for the perfect show to watch.
Don’t miss out on the other retro-style coloured glassware, such as these bubble candle holders (RM21.90) that remind us of those Korean aesthetic cafe drink accounts on social media.
7. Corelle-inspired glassware and tableware from RM49.90
Add a little extra spice to your cookware collection by picking one of these bad boys. A 5-piece vintage-y brown glass cookware reminiscent of those Pyroceram ones made by Visions costs only RM49.90.
We also spotted Le Creuset-style casserole pots that come in vibrant colours such as fire engine red, navy blue, millennial pink, and forest green. Ceramic baking dishes, including a particularly charming pistachio-hued one (RM23.90) and a grey ramekin (RM8.90), will also be a charming addition to your kitchen.
We’re especially fond of the retro patterned tableware that reminds us of old-school Corningware and Corelle products. A small snack bowl costs RM5, and it’s just the perfect size for a fistful of peanuts to accompany an ice-cold glass of beer.
Those who prefer matching plates and bowls will delight in Objet’s matte glaze tableware sets, which start from RM90. They come in a multitude of colourways, including seafoam green and slate blue, and elevate your dining experience without adding visual clutter.
The scallop-edged bowls and blue-and-white painted chinaware are also worthwhile additions that look pretty atas without an atas price tag—totally worth it.
Objet at Mid Valley Southkey Mall in JB
Objet at Mid Valley Southkey in JB is only 30 minutes away from the Causeway by car, so it’s a pretty good choice if you’re looking for budget-friendly, quality homeware and have some extra time on your hands.
While you’re at the mall, also check out Muji, which is located just opposite Objet. The items there are the same as what you’d find in our local Muji outlets, but prices are slightly cheaper thanks to favourable exchange rates.
