In the latest announcements made by Minister for National Development, Mr Chee Hong Tat, some future housing plans were revealed. The first was for BTO flats to be built in the area of Pearl’s Hill, and the second was for a BTO project to be launched right next to Caldecott MRT station. Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming BTO projects.

While the location itself might be a big enough draw for most prospective homeowners, another exciting fact about this project is that it will be a staggering 60 storeys tall. This will crown it as the future tallest HDB building in Singapore, surpassing the long-crowned Pinnacle @ Duxton for the title.

The Pearl’s Hill BTO is set to feature 1,700 BTO flats, including 2-room Flexi, 3-room, and 4-room flats, alongside 140 rental flats.

Slated to be built on the site of the old Outram Park Complex, beside Outram Park MRT station, the Pearl’s Hill BTO project is said to be inspired by the nearby Chinatown heritage, with its design drawing inspiration from traditional “mountain-water paintings.” Expect communal spaces set against a backdrop of foliage and running water features.

We predict that this Pearl’s Hill BTO project will likely be classified as Prime due to its location and connectivity to the CBD. We also expect this project launch to be heavily oversubscribed due to its attractive location and ease of connectivity to town and the CBD.

The second BTO project mentioned in Minister Chee Hong Tat’s speech is Toa Payoh West, a project that will sit right next to Caldecott MRT station and Caldecott Park, featuring 1,600 BTO flats spread across a total of 5 blocks.

Similar to the Pearl’s Hill BTO project, Toa Payoh West will only have 2-room Flexi flats, 4-room flats, and about 230 public rental flats – so those hoping for 5-room flats might be slightly disappointed. The project will also include 240 Community Care Apartments (CCA) for the elderly. Additionally, a 1.1-hectare neighbourhood park will be built, providing green spaces for exercise, play, and relaxation.

In terms of amenities, residents can look forward to the usual, including a food court, supermarket, childcare centre, and a mix of shops. In addition, the project will also be next to a new mixed-use development, which will likely include air-conditioned shops in a mall-like setting.

Minister Chee also likened this new mixed-use residential development to Woodleigh Mall in Bidadari. Given past trends and the features of nearby developments, the Toa Payoh West MTO project is likely to be classified as Prime public housing.

In the coming decade, Toa Payoh West and Mount Pleasant will see the addition of over 10,000 new homes, along with upgraded community areas and fresh retail developments aimed at improving the overall living experience for residents.
