Grafunkt’s Co-Founder Opens Nathan Home—A Stylish Furniture Store In A Restored Colonial Bungalow

Tucked away in the quiet enclave in Seletar lies a cluster of black-and-white bungalows—and you might not expect that one of them houses a furniture store. Located at 8 Baker Street, Nathan Home is the latest project by local designer Nathan Yong, set in a restored 2-storey bungalow that feels like a cosy home.

Nathan Home: 2-storey furniture shop in Seletar

Nathan Home - Exterior

Nathan Home is situated in a restored 1930s colonial bungalow, formerly the home of British servicemen. Stepping inside feels like you’re entering someone’s home rather than a typical furniture retail showroom, with a warm and lived-in atmosphere.

Nathan Home - rooms

Each room has been styled to resemble a real living space, featuring living and dining areas, as well as bedrooms—giving you a personal experience of how each piece might look and feel in your own home.

Every piece of furniture in the store is designed by Nathan Yong and produced by his team in Malaysia. Nathan is a homegrown designer who’s also the co-founder of Grafunkt and runs his own design consultancy.

Locally made custom furniture—our top picks

1. Ante Shelves ($4,400)

Nathan Home - Ante Shelves

One thing you might notice about the store is that there’s no plastic furniture throughout its offerings, with an emphasis on sustainable and long-lasting materials, such as wood and metal. Nathan Home offers a range of furniture pieces made from wood sourced only from managed tree farms in America and Europe, such as the Ante Shelves ($4,400).

Available in white ash and walnut, the shelves suit both cool and warm-toned homes. Their open-frame design creates a statement piece for your room, while keeping your items organised as a functional display shelf without looking too bulky.

2. Hornbill (from $150)

Nathan Home - Hornbill

If you’re looking for a fun touch to your living space, the Hornbill (from $150) is a unique decoration that pays homage to this native bird in our region.

The pieces are hand-carved from solid white ash, and can be found in small, medium, and large sizes to form a decorative set. You can also scatter them around your home as small decorative touches, adding an elegant and fun detail to your rooms.

3. Kita Sofa ($2,400)

Nathan Home - Kita Sofa

The Kita Sofa ($2,400) stands out with its versatile design—ideal for those who enjoy rearranging their space to suit different occasions. Inspired by traditional triangular Thai cushions, the sofa features movable backrests that can be repositioned facing each other, side by side for lounging, or shifted to form a daybed.

Whether you’re hosting guests or unwinding after a long day, the sofa’s open structure is adaptable for your lifestyle needs.

4. Float Dining Table (from $3,100) & Float Chair ($1,080)

Nathan Home - Float Dining Table & Chair

Paired in a section of the showroom styled like a dining room, the Float Dining Table (from $3,100) and the Float Chair ($1,080) complement each other with their cool-toned wood and elegant design.

At first glance, the table may look like a minimalist rectangular table, but a closer look reveals a playful “floating” detail, where a part of the tabletop appears to be slightly elevated from the base. A similar subtle detail can be found in the Float Chair, with a gently curved backrest that contrasts against its angular structure to offer a comfortable rest.

5. Pillows Sofa (from $5,368)

Nathan Home - Pillows Sofa

Like a grown-up version of a pillow fort, the Pillows Sofa (from $5,368 for a one-seater) is made up of oversized cushions that invite you to sink right in. Plush and perfect for lounging, it can serve as a cosy one-seater chair or be customised into a larger modular setup to accommodate more guests, creating a unique statement piece for your living room.

6. Slot Bed (from $3,900)

Nathan Home - Slot Bed

The Slot Bed (from $3,900 for a Queen size) creates a calming feel in the bedroom with its smooth ash wood frame. Similar to other wooden pieces in the store, it is available in ash or walnut, so you can easily match it to your home’s palette.

Each solid wood slat is individually secured for long-lasting durability, and the legs and headboard are constructed to minimise warping over time. With its rounded frame and subtle joints, the bed is a good fit for homeowners going for a minimalist or Japandi vibe.

7. Calder Hanger ($500)

Nathan Home - Calder

Unlike your typical hanger, the Calder hanger ($500) looks like a sculpture in an art gallery, doubling as decor for your room.

It’s a space-saving piece that works well near doorways or in bedrooms, with varying heights to hang clothing of different lengths. Both convenient and stylish, the hanger adds a playful touch to picking out your outfit of the day.

Each furniture piece at Nathan Home is made to order, with the production lead time varying by material—2 months for sofas, 3 months for metal furniture, and 4 months for wooden furniture. If you’re planning your home renovation or refreshing your living space, it’s worth factoring in some buffer time.
