One of the biggest gripes about HDB BTO flats is how long they take to be built. Well, our grievances have been answered, as the June 2024 HDB BTO launch will feature more than a thousand new flats that will take merely 3 years to be completed.
This quarter’s announcement also has a couple of new updates to the BTO scheme that you wouldn’t want to miss out on, especially if you’re a first-timer parent or married couple looking to apply for their first BTO flat.
Wide selection of flats available from 2-room Flexi to 3Gen units
There have been plenty of HDB BTO launches in the past that only offered 3- and 4-room units, which might be a dealbreaker for larger families or those who don’t need as much space. This time around, in the June 2024 BTO launch, each of the projects—except for Queenstown—has a wider selection of flat types up for grabs. Here’s the exact breakdown:
Town | Flat Types Available | Units Available |
Yishun | 2-room Flexi, 3-room, 4-room, 5-room | 1,270 |
Woodlands | 2-room Flexi, 3-room, 4-room. 5-room, 3Gen | 1,590 |
Jurong East | 2-room Flexi, 3-room, 4-room, 5-room | 1,070 |
Tampines | 2-room Flexi, 4-room, 5-Room | 550 |
Queenstown | 2-room Flexi, 4-room | 330 |
Kallang/Whampoa | 2-room Flexi, 3-room, 4-room | 2,020 |
With every single project having a selection of 2-room Flexi flats, this spells hope for those who just want a slice of paradise to call their own, even though it might not have the biggest square footage.
It’s also the first time since August 2023 that 3Gen flats have been offered, so those who want that extra space should definitely set their sights on the Woodlands project. However, only 31 3Gen flats will be available, so do temper your expectations as we can be certain that these flats will have a really high application rate.

Speaking of Woodlands, the BTO launch here and the one in Tampines will feature a shorter waiting time compared to the rest of the BTO launches in other estates. Specifically, the Marsiling Peak I BTO project and Tampines GreenTopaz BTO project are slated to have a 35-37 month waiting period.

These 2 projects make up 1,352 flats in total, which is nearly 20% of the total number of flats offered in the June 2024 HDB BTO exercise. This is also nearly twice the number of flats that have a shorter waiting time, compared to the 732 flats that were offered in 2023.
Hopefully, if this improvement is to be kept up, more homeowners in the future won’t have to wait too long to get their keys to their new homes.
New scheme for first-timer parents & married couples
The June 2024 HDB BTO launch would also be the first time the new First-Timer (Parents & Married Couples) priority category will take effect. Announced earlier this year, the FT(PMC) will give eligible applicants one additional ballot on top of the 2 ballots they already get as first-time buyers.
To qualify for the category, the following criteria must be met:
- Families must have at least 1 Singapore citizen child aged 18 years and below, or be a married couple aged 40 and below.
- Must have never owned or sold a residential property before, including an HDB flat.
- Have never booked a BTO or SBH flat in the past 5 years before their flat application.
Those who are eligible would not need to indicate in their application whether or not they require this priority categorisation, as HDB will automatically assess if the applicants meet the criteria.
