It’s no thanks to global events that stretching every dollar has become increasingly important these days. While it’s a small matter of prioritising needs over wants when it comes to discretionary purchases, kitting out your home, a new one especially, is 100% a necessity.

We don’t judge if you’re on a constant lookout for lobang and cost-savings. In fact, we’re here to help you out, with the ultimate homeowner’s cheat sheet for stacking discounts on home furnishings and appliances.

1. Make use of government rebates & Climate Vouchers first

ICYMI, we’ve been blessed with Climate Vouchers, thanks to the Singapore Government, with each household eligible for up to $400 worth over the last two years. If you haven’t used your vouchers, which expire on 31st December 2027, you can spend them on 12 types of energy- and water-efficient household products, which you can’t possibly go without in your new home.

5 ticks

These include:

  • Refrigerators (3 ticks & above)
  • Air-conditioners (5 ticks)
  • Direct current fans (2 ticks & above)
  • LED lights (2 ticks & above)
  • Water heaters (5 ticks)
  • Washing machines (4 ticks)
  • Shower fittings (3 ticks)
  • Water closets (3 ticks)
  • Sink/bib taps and mixers (3 ticks)
  • Basin taps and mixers (3 ticks)
  • Induction stoves (5 ticks)
  • Clothes dryers (5 ticks)

It’s so easy to use these vouchers, whether you’re looking at the big retailers like Best Denki, COURTS, Gain City, or Harvey Norman, or independent stores islandwide. On that note, if you’re looking at smaller retailers, you could even stack them with other government rebates, such as the CDC vouchers, which by the way expire this year, on 31st December 2026.

Plus, these vouchers can be stacked with store and credit card promos, or a DBS Instalment Payment Plan (IPP), but more on that later.

P.S.: Did you know that when you change your address after you’ve moved into your new home, you can claim a new set of Climate Vouchers?

2. Time your purchase around retail promotions

No longer do we have to camp for the GSS to come around. These days, every major retailer now runs its own promotional cycle: festive sales, double-day sales, payday sales, anniversary sales, warehouse clearances, group buy events; even international sale events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

This means that with a bit of planning, there is almost always a deal running on something you need.

You’ll be happy to know that these sales often run exclusive of the rebates and vouchers mentioned above, so stacking discounts is a matter of finding the best deal on your chosen products. Throw in freebies like gifts-with-purchase, installation and disposal, extended warranties, and supermarket vouchers, and the deal is instantly that much sweeter.

What’s more, you can enjoy $60 off a minimum of $2,000 spent via DBS IPP at Best Denki, COURTS, Gain City, and Harvey Norman from now till 31st May 2026.

At their last New Homeowner Private Sale, the discounts ran up to 87% off, with free warehousing and delivery thrown in!

Then, there’s Best Denki, which frequently runs additional promos that allow you to enjoy extra savings after current deals. Take for example their current Climate Vouchers offer, where selected appliances have their prices slashed by up to $330, or the Emergency Clearance Sale that’s now on, where Korean appliances are on sale at up to 50% off.

If none of that catches your fancy, selected items like LG fridges and washers are currently going for 10% off from now till 31st May 2026, when you pay with a 12-month DBS IPP━which is only valid on in-store purchases.

Harvey Norman

Meanwhile, you’ll want to head to Harvey Norman to shop for your bedroom necessities, because you’ll receive a complimentary Nature Basics Fluff Lite Quit (worth up to $299) with any purchase of a king or queen-sized mattress. Simply pay for your purchases with a 12- or 24-month DBS IPP to cop this deal.

We’re talking mattress brands like Eclipse, King Koil, Sealy, Simmons, and Tempur, guaranteed to give you a good night’s sleep. Try them for yourself at their Millennia Walk flagship store, housing over 100 mattresses.

Major events on the Harvey Norman sale calendar that you should bookmark include the Greatest Ever Harvey Norman Show, an annual event at Downtown East with discounts of up to 80% off. Also upcoming is the Mid-Year Clearance Sale, with sales purportedly up to 50% off.

Gain City

Over at aircon specialist Gain City, they run exclusive New Homeowner Group Buy events which allow you to access bulk-buy bundle discounts across aircons, bedding, electronics, home furnishings and more; they have appointed staff on-site who can help you sort through all the numbers and deals as well. According to this Lemon8 user’s sums, the Gain City Group Buy event helped them net an almost-15% saving on their purchases.

When you’re done shopping here, all you’ve to do is pay for your purchases with a 12-, 24-, or 36-month DBS IPP, and you can cop an Eikou GlacierPure Water Purifier at $1,499 (U.P. $2,999), and get a free filter worth $199 while you’re at it.

Where to find current sale events

Apart from the ones listed above, you should definitely keep your eyes peeled for display set sales and end-of-line clearances, which happen periodically and aren’t always announced far in advance.

The best move, therefore, is to follow their updates directly, such as follow their Instagram pages, or Telegram channels that give you first dibs on sales across the major retailers:

Make use of best-price guarantees

If you thought that was it, think again, because just in case you found a better deal after you’ve made your purchase, you have up to 14 days to find a lower price.

3. Split the big expense with DBS IPP

Adulting is tough, and we empathise. Throw in a family to support, and it’s true that every cent saved is a cent more for rainy days. When you’re moving into a new home or should all of your appliances decide to KO simultaneously, we get it: finances will feel pretty stretched.

Assuming a total of $8,000 for a fridge, washing machine and air-conditioner, having the luxury of splitting this bill across 12 months works out to a more palatable $667 monthly.

You won’t have to dig into your household emergency funds, and you won’t have to worry about putting any strain on your immediate cash flow. All this, while enjoying the spiffy new appliances that now sit in your home.

DBS Instalment Payment Plan (IPP): a 0% interest instalment plan which allows you to break down the financial pain into manageable pieces that you can repay over anywhere from 3 to 48 months, and in equal monthly payments.

With no additional costs such as interest or processing fees, it’s extra convenient to fall back on a DBS IPP when you need it at times like these. And you get to choose your repayment tenure too, so you can decide what’s the most comfortable for you, while keeping your cash on hand free.
