Owning a live edge dining table used to be a thing reserved for those with plenty of disposable income. But it’s no longer a bank-breaking purchase, especially when you can buy a solid wood live edge table for $1,000 at Boo Furniture in Johor Bahru.
Compared to local furniture stores that might sell similar tables at a starting price of $1,800, getting a custom table at our neighbours to the north is a steal. Plus, Boo Furniture also has plenty of other furniture from TV consoles to bed frames and even small home accessories that are all crafted from teak and suar wood.

After a 20-minute drive from JB Sentral to Taman Molek, we arrived at the 3-storey-tall showroom. Here’s a guide on what you can expect and how you can go about customising an affordable live edge dining table.
Customise your own live edge teak wood slab table
When we entered the showroom, we were greeted by an entire floor filled with a plethora of wooden furniture. But what we were here for was the huge selection of wooden slabs that occupied the back half of the space.
There are live edge wood slabs in plenty of styles and sizes on display, some of which are even in pull-out sliding shelves so you can easily see every detail of the wood. They’re all sourced from nearby Indonesia, which helps to keep costs low as compared to more exotic varieties of wood.
If you don’t see anything that tickles your fancy, Boo Furniture could also source a slab for you. Fair warning: this process will take more time than if you were to just pick one of the slabs that’s readily available.
The staff at Boo Furniture can also give you a preview of how the wood slab will look after it’s been treated with varnish, as it’ll turn into a richer colour.
Next to the slabs is also a selection of table legs you could pick from to match the slab you chose. From matching wooden table legs to modern steel ones, you’ll be able to create a truly unique table for your home.
To make things more convenient, you can also pick out chairs to match the table. One thing we’ve seen plenty of homeowners do is choose mismatched chairs for a more dynamic aesthetic.
As these tables are real teak wood, the prices are reflective of this. A 1.5m by 0.9m slab will cost around RM3500 (~S$1,089), while a larger 2m by 1m slab will set you back around RM4700 (~S$1,463). The largest size you can get here is a 3m by 1.1m slab that costs a whopping RM12,200 (~S$3,797). These prices are inclusive of basic teak wood legs.
It’s still cheaper than you’d get in Singapore, where a 1.5m slab starts from $1,800, and a 2m slab starts from $2,400 at Grey & Sanders. The largest size offered by Grey & Sanders is also a 3m slab for $4,150.
Shop a wide selection of teak & suar wood furniture
Boo Furniture is not just a shop to buy dining tables at. The rest of the 3-storey showroom is filled with a plethora of wooden furniture that’s catered for every room. From circular dining tables and benches to bed frames, this showroom is a godsend for those who are looking to furnish their homes in a Scandinavian or Japanese style.
There are also little home accessories and trinkets you can get, from cheese boards to ladles, lamps to decorative pieces━all made from spare wood.
Boo Furniture—a 3-storey furniture store in Johor Bahru
If you’ve been wanting a live edge dining table for the longest time, this is your sign to pull the trigger and get one from Boo Furniture. Not only is it more affordable than getting it from Singapore, but you can also furnish the other rooms in your home here, saving you time from having to do even more shopping—although that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
The shipping fee to Singapore is a flat rate of RM300 (~S$93). You’d also have to pay 9% GST, but it’s calculated in Ringgit so you might even save some money, depending on the exchange rate.
