When one thinks of a jungalow home, they might imagine a visually busy design that borders on jungle more than it does a plant-filled home. However, with its open, calm interiors inspired by natural elements and a touch of free-spirited eclecticism, this home’s unique jungalow style is definitely worth adding to your inspiration boards.
Charming jungalow-inspired balcony area

Gently filtering light into a soft glow that creates a cosy, tranquil atmosphere, these rattan blinds not only shield the home from prying eyes but also visually separate the balcony from the common area.

Adding to its character, the balcony incorporates elements typical of the jungalow interior aesthetic: rattan features, terrazzo flooring that resembles natural gravel, and earthy rich tones as seen in the use of dark green tiles and walnut benches.

The blinds are actually hinged, allowing the homeowners to open this jungalow-esque balcony up should they wish to let in more light into their living space. Even when closed, the rattan facilitates natural ventilation, keeping the home cool and breezy.
A classy, modern kitchen

Inside, the homeowners adopted a modern take on the design of their living spaces. The kitchen, for one, is sleek and contemporary with clean lines, textured surfaces and gold accents for a pop of colour. A dark green shade ties the look of the kitchen back to the jungalow theme, giving the home a sense of continuity.

The addition of plants with their brighter hues stand out against the dark green colour scheme of the kitchen to provide valuable contrast and visual depth. What is striking here is the unique decision of having a half-wall backsplash consisting of chevron tiles in the same shade of green as the cabinetry.
This allows for the negative white space to balance out the more intense palette of the kitchen and keeps the vibes light.
The pattern of the tiles being evocative of mountains is also a neat touch.

Whimsical living & dining space

The large floral mural on the wall adds a valuable splash of texture and anchors the living room to the jungalow theme. This space departs from the rich and dark colours featured in the kitchen, instead adopting a brighter Scandinavian aesthetic headlined by the mural wall. The clean, abstract visuals of the floral wall art complement, but do not detract from the calming disposition of the living room.
There are also yet more elements of the jungalow theme at play here, from the small scattering of plants, to a floral print pouffe and even a patterned rug.

There is even a fun collage of art pieces behind the dining table that give the area a whimsical, lived-in vibe. It also provides a focal point and captures the essence of the homeowners’ artistic tastes.
Modern bohemian bedroom

The bedroom continues the jungalow theme of the home though with a cosier, simpler approach that’s conducive for rest. Only a couple of built-ins, a bed, a bedside table and a handful of loose items fill this place.

The bed, framed with a beautiful cane headboard bearing leaf motifs is further mantled by an arched chinoiserie alcove, making the room feel like a boho-chic jungle retreat. The soft warm glow with the LED-illuminated arch highlights this area and draws a viewer’s attention to this centrepiece design feature.

A noteworthy piece of decor would be this cane vase, which has its own dedicated spot carved out for it in the built-in settee beside the bed.
Hotel-like bathroom with built-in vanity

Although subtle, elements of the jungalow style are carried through to the bathroom in the form of a smattering of plants and a cane-framed mirror. The terrazzo pattern from the balcony also makes a reprise here, this time as a backdrop for the sink. All of this, along with the fancy built-in vanity dresser, come together to look like an en-suite in an upscale hotel.

On the other side of the built-in vanity is a set of rattan blinds, this time acting as an aesthetic facade. A repeat of the same blinds used in the jungalow-esque balcony, its use adds a softness to the visual language of the room through the arched shape, and contributes to the design theme in this room.
A Pinterest-worthy pink bathroom

Surrounded by glossy salmon-pink tiles and presided over by gold shower fittings, the bathtub is a sizable feature that necessitated the relocation of the vanity sink to fit within the confines of an HDB bathroom.
Although perhaps modest by the standards of larger homes, the overall design of this bathroom does provide a much-appreciated sense of opulence.
Jungalow-style Bedok HDB flat
With plenty of nature-oriented details mixed in with elements of the homeowner’s artistic interests, this serene HDB flat with a jungalow-esque balcony is a wonderful example of marrying a design theme with a personal touch. Perhaps homeowners drawing up reno plans could similarly look into adding their own spin to the designs too.
