It’s hard not to be swayed by consumerism’s constant push to buy, buy, and buy. And it’s only natural to want the best for yourself, which explains why, despite hefty price tags, we often upgrade big-ticket items such as smartphones and appliances well before they stop working.
This poses a problem for the environment: electronics are difficult to recycle properly, and the layperson is unlikely to know how to. But that’s where Dyson comes in—their cross-category trade-in programme, launched in the beginning of June, promises to take care of the recycling while saving you up to $749 off your new Dyson purchase.

Rolled out at the beginning of the month, the Dyson trade-in programme offers would-be customers the option to trade in existing home appliances of any brand in exchange for rebates off their Dyson purchase.
Each trade-in will get you a voucher, worth from $60 to $200 each, to redeem against a new Dyson purchase. The trade-in vouchers can only be used on selected Dyson products listed on their website.

Don’t worry if your existing machine is broken—Dyson will accept trade-ins regardless of your appliance’s conditions. After all, the programme is meant to help consumers recycle their unwanted household appliances.
And you don’t have to lug your appliances all the way down to a Dyson store either as the brand offers complimentary collections for trade-ins. According to the website, “[once] your new machine is delivered, you’ll receive a return label. To arrange collection, simply call the DHL customer care team at 1800 285 8888, and they will schedule a pickup for your old machine.”

There are a total of 18 applicable products under the Dyson trade-in programme, running the gamut from vacuums to headphones. The star of the show is the latest Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine in Yellow/Nickel, a wet-and-dry vacuum that promises to give your home a “barefoot clean floor finish”.

Then, there’s the coveted Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ multi-styler and dryer, which is the darling of many beauty content creators online. The upgraded model strives to give you perfect hair each time without heat damage, and you can even personalise the type of curl you want through the dedicated Dyson app.

Another notable product is the Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde, a powerful yet quiet air purifier that cleans the air of allergens and pollutants without disturbing your peace. Plus, it delivers over 80L of purified air per second, helping to cool down the space while it cleans.
The HEPA filter inside this air purifier only needs to be replaced every 4 years, so that’s one less headache. And to wrap it all up, you can use the Singapore Climate Voucher on the Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde to offset some of the cost.
Dyson trade-in programme to help the environment
While it’s nice to upgrade to the latest fancy tech gadgets and appliances to help make life easier, this should never come at the cost of the environment. The Dyson trade-in programme helps consumers recycle old, unwanted appliances, offsetting some of the environmental burden of upgrading to new tech.

If none of the products under Dyson’s trade-in programme caught your eye, consider checking out the brand’s refurbished offerings instead. Sold under “Dyson Renewed”, appliances under this section are refurbished by a team of experts and thoroughly cleaned, tested, and renewed before they’re sold again. It’s another great way to go greener when you’re on the market shopping for new appliances.
